0900 | Brief introduction by the course leader. |
0905 | We establish each participant's expectation of this seminar and how we can best fulfil it. We ask for and discuss each participant's perception of good and bad presentation in the context of your organisation. We re-cap the basic principles of effective presentation. We set objectives for the two days and discuss delegate involvement and the use of the video recording equipment. |
0945 | Each participant gives a short talk (3-5 minutes) about his or her own background/experience/personal history and may add further points to the discussion in the previous session. |
1100 | Preparing a short talk. Objective setting and how brainstorming can help here. To whom are we talking? What are we hoping to achieve and is that realistic in the time we have available? How to prepare notes; how to estimate how long the talk will take without the opportunity to try it first at home!
Each delegate decides on a subject for an 8-minute talk, sets objectives, works out a logical structure and prepares the necessary notes. |
1200 | Delegates make their first presentations. Each talk will be followed immediately by a group discussion analysing its merits. The talks will be video-taped and each participant may have an opportunity at a later stage to watch his or her talk in full with the course director for more detailed analysis. |
