Presentation Skills and Running and Contributing to Meetings
Objectives
To re-cap the basic principles: what makes a presentation lively,
informative and enjoyable! Then to agree on what we should aim to
achieve in this two-day seminar - first on a group basis and then
on an individual basis.
To establish the purpose of a meeting in terms of what we aim
to achieve rather than what we hope to "discuss" - how this will
help with both writing the agenda and controlling the discussion
To give each participant three opportunities to give a prepared
talk and, by the use of video and group discussion, to improve his
or her presentation skills - to develop a personal style which is
natural, persuasive and professional.
To discuss the best techniques of chairing meetings. How to influence
discussion and how to establish control without appearing heavy-handed.
How to handle difficult audiences, aggressive questions and unexpected
situations. The opportunities, dangers and pitfalls of formal occasions
- conferences, after-dinner speaking; humour; and dealing with one's
own nerves.
Skills with visuals. To enable presenters to select and design
visual aids which create interest, help understanding and make the
message more memorable.
